That's what I need help with. My apartment is too small for walkers, or anything. My wheelchair barely works, (inside, as it's such a nice little box),and I can only use walkers, in certain places. Right now, I'm working with crutches, because, it seems the only answer. My leg keeps deadening, and I cannot stop it. I also can't be ready, because, I don't know when it will strike me.
I'm doing all right, but am having problems, making sure the crutches land correctly. Problem is, there's no other option, and if I use nothing, or even one side, I fall. No, I have no trouble falling. In fact, I was inaugurated into the "Church Gymnastics Team," a joke from the guy who does put out our our prayer requests.
He said in jest, that the team may have to be canceled, due to so many injuries. Yes, I laughed, till I couldn't breathe, and I thought it was hilarious.
In fun, I want to keep the coach happy. Laughing!
Seriously, I got the crummy crutches, to try to stop falling on my butt. Or, kissing my carpet. I bruise easy, and that scares caregivers, who have heard of families or friends making claims about stuff. I tell the truth, and that's my leg gives out, and I have absolutely no feeling. If there's any feeling, it's not worth a thin dime, and doesn't stop the falls.
The problem is, I'm making marks, when I fall against something, too.
So, any suggestions, would help. I can't do a rehab center, because, they'll force generic Tegratol on me. That's the med that helps control my moods. The generic either makes me severely manic, or, in a depression, that feels like I can't get out of. The last thing I need, is someone else making me lose what faculties, I have left.
Blessings In Christ,
Sarah
Sure.
Get a walker with a smaller frame. I've seen these, and there not that wide at all.
Some go in front of the body instead of you fitting between the rails.
I've even seen them that are powered. You push the button, and the walker moves for you.
Next, get a smaller chair for inside.
Ah.
Third, get rid of clutter. Some folks keep way to much stuff. Even the abled body have problems getting around in their places due to clutter.
Smile.
Oh, and I guess I was correct, you do have a place for low income people. Good.
I thought you'd said you did, so I didn't understand when you said you'd lost one.
Another suggestion. Have all the interior doors removed. That will help navigation in small spaces too.
No. I am still paying most of my check. I'm waiting for a low-income place. I'm told I'm stuck for 2 more years, here. I like the people, not the size of the apartment. If I lived in Low-income, I wouldn't have this issue, because, it would be accessible. This one isn't. I have a small walker, and it doesn't fit.
Blessings,
Sarah
